What this site is
Why Stop Harming Animals is a free, public website about why we should stop harming animals. It covers four areas: ethics (what animals feel, and how many are killed), human health, the planet, and culture and history. There are about 46 topic pages and 55 articles, and you can read all of them without signing up or paying anything.
We made it because the case against harming animals is usually argued with slogans on one side and shrugs on the other. The research behind it is large, and most of it is public. We wanted one place where a curious person could see that research laid out clearly and check it for themselves.
How we handle evidence
Every claim links to its source: a study, a dataset, or a statement from an institution such as a dietetic association. Click through and you can read it yourself.
The strongest evidence comes first. Large reviews and long-running studies go ahead of single small trials. Each source card is labeled so you can see what kind of evidence you're looking at:
- Meta-analysis
- Review
- Observational
- Clinical
- Small sample
- Animal study
We keep the caveats in on purpose. Small samples, animal studies, and observational designs that can't prove cause and effect are all shown and labeled. So are findings that go against our case. If a study found something we'd rather it hadn't, it stays on the page.
Languages
The site is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, and Arabic. Each language has its own web address (Spanish pages start with /es/, for example), and when you pick a language the site remembers it for your next visit.
What this site isn't
It isn't medical advice. The health pages summarize research, and research can't tell you what's right for your own body. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before you change your diet, especially if you're pregnant, have a medical condition, or take medication.
It isn't selling anything. There are no ads, no products, no accounts, and no analytics or tracking of our own. The Privacy page lists the few outside requests a visit makes. The privacy page explains exactly what does and doesn't happen when you visit.
Found a mistake?
If you spot an error, a broken link, or a study we've misread, email contact@stealthlaunch.com. Write to us too if you know a good source we're missing, including one that cuts against what the site says. Tell us which page you mean and, if you can, include a link to the source.
Where we stand
Animals are someone, not something. A cow, a pig, a chicken, and a fish each have a life that matters to them, and we don't need to harm or eat them. The rest of the site is the evidence for that, with the sources attached.
