Using this site

These terms cover your use of whystopharminganimals.com. By using the site, you agree to them. We've kept them short and in plain English. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site.

Information, not medical advice

Everything here is for general information and education. It isn't medical, nutritional, or veterinary advice, and it can't replace advice from someone who knows your situation.

Talk to a qualified professional, such as a doctor or registered dietitian, before you change your diet. This matters most for:

  • children
  • pregnancy
  • anyone with a medical condition
  • anyone taking medication, since some drugs (diabetes medication, for example) may need adjusting when your diet changes

Don't stop or change a prescribed treatment because of something you read here. Bring it to the person treating you instead.

About the research

We summarize studies as accurately as we can, but summaries can contain mistakes, and science changes as new research comes in. Every claim links to its source, so check the original before you rely on it.

When a study has limits (a small sample, animals instead of people, or an observational design that can't show cause and effect), its source card says so. Those labels help, but they don't replace reading the study. If you find an error, please tell us.

Feeding dogs and cats

If you feed a dog or cat a vegan diet, the food must be nutritionally complete, with everything they need, including taurine and vitamin B12. Involve a vet in the change and in your animal's check-ups afterward. Don't switch an animal's food on your own based on what you read here.

Sharing our content

You're welcome to link to any page, and to quote short passages as long as you credit the site and link back to it. The share cards are made to be screenshotted and passed around, so please do.

Otherwise, the site's text is all rights reserved. Photos and charts belong to the owners credited next to them. Study abstracts belong to their publishers. Please don't copy whole articles or pages, or present our writing as your own.

No warranties

The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be either. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or harm that comes from using the site or relying on what it says.

Changes

We may change or remove content at any time, and we may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when the current version was published. If you keep using the site after an update, the new terms apply.
